Authenticity or All Inclusive
One of the main countries renowned for fantastic food is Greece. Greek cuisine is one of the best in the world, rich in taste and flavour with a wide range of local delicacies. Seafood plays a major part in Greek cooking, as the country is so close the coastline, it is no wonder that they make the most of the fresh fish available. Many meals are served with fresh bread, olives and the perfect olive oil to complement your dish. Greece is the country which consumes the most olive oil per year; it is no wonder when you taste the mouth-watering varieties that are offered.
Another popular Greek dish is Mezedes, small plates of food served with the traditional Greek drink, Ouzo. Depending where you are the Mezedes will be different, if you are by the sea expect a variety of sea food or if you are in the mountains you may be sampling some local cheese or even lamb sweetbreads. Ouzo is always served with a selection of Mezedes, even if it is just a small plate of nuts in a tourist bar! It is the perfect accompaniment to the drink, as it allows you to savour the taste without getting intoxicated.
Although many all inclusive holiday resorts do offer a selection of Greek food, it does not really equate to the experience of tasting authentic Greek food in one of the traditional restaurants. Next time you are booking a holiday abroad it is always best to consider is you want to indulge in local cuisine or stick to burger and chips in the hotel buffet! Many all inclusive holiday resorts offer the ability to choose the days you want to have access to the buffets and drinks, even if you only take one day to sample some local flavour, it is usually enough to get you hooked.
