Caribbean Culinary Creations
Caribbean cuisine is a fusion of African, British, Spanish, French, Dutch and Chinese with many other influences from around the world. These cultures were brought from the many homelands of the Caribbean’s population. In addition to fusing together all of these culinary styles, the region has also developed styles that are unique to the Caribbean.
No Caribbean holiday would be complete without sampling some of famous ‘jerk’ seasoned meat. It has a unique, spicy flavour and is most commonly used to season chicken. Rice is another staple food that is eaten with many local dishes; it is usually combined with a variety of sauces and beans which are more commonly known as peas.
A local version of Caribbean goat stew as the official national dish of Montserrat, it is a tomato based stew made with goat’s meat and a selection of fruits and dumplings. The Spanish speaking islands of the Caribbean tend to stick more towards savoury tastes, with cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg become prevalent in many of the dishes.
Seafood is common cuisine across all of the Caribbean islands, however each of the islands have their own speciality. Many tend to prepare lobster, fish and even shark in their own unique way. A Caribbean holiday is a fantastic way to open your mind and your taste buds to some of the exciting Caribbean flavours.
