A Copenhagen city break is a great way to explore the history and culture of this fantastic city. With so much to see and do including a fantastic array of local restaurants to sample, this Danish city offers something for everyone.

A wide range of cuisines

Copenhagen city breaks are an ideal way to explore one of the oldest cities in Europe. The majority of the city is located on the Island of Sjaelland offering visitors a small but exciting place to spend their holiday. Copenhagen is a lively, attractive destination with architecture and historical monuments to explore. During a Copenhagen city break there is so much to see and do, from interesting museums to a wide array of fantastic shopping opportunities. One of the best things about a Copenhagen city break is the delicious local cuisine that visitors can sample.

Danish cuisine is quite simple yet very tasty, with the majority of dishes falling into one of three categories. First is the traditional basics which includes roasted meats, frikadeller (Danish meatballs) and chicken, these are often served with delicious roast potatoes and gravy. Fish is another traditional basic, with many restaurants serving seafood as both an appetizer and as a main. Denmark’s famous open sandwiches are known as ‘Smorrebrod’ and are available in a wide range of varieties. Toppings can range from liver paste, herring and even smoked eel. There are also a wide range of other familiar ingredients including ham, cheese and smoked salmon.

The third category of cuisine is known as ‘Koldt bord’ a lavish multi course affair that is extremely popular with tourists. The first course begins with a loaded place of seafood and salads followed by a plate of meatballs, cold meats and fried potatoes. Freshly baked bread and a sweet dessert finish the exciting menu.

Many international menus and restaurants can be found during a Copenhagen city break including Spanish cuisine and American fast-food restaurants.
