HD (Historical Definition)
You will appreciate on a Cyprus holiday all that you see, here and taste is a direct result of all the invasions and influences that have occurred on the island country over its long history. The likes of the Ottoman and Roman Empire have occupied Cyprus in the past and it was also under Greek and UK rule for many years too, all this together has had a positive effect as the country now has its own unique identity.
The cuisine is one thing that has benefitted from the years of influence, something that you will certainly enjoy on a Cyprus holiday. If you order Cypriot Meze you will get a variety of meat or fish or even a combination of both, Meze is similar to Spanish Tapas. Halloumi is grilled cheese which is made from mixture of sheep’s and cow’s milk, it can be hard and salty until cooked. Taramosaltata is salted roe of either a Cod or a Carp which is mixed with mashed potatoes or bread crumbs then a selection of parsley, lemon juice, vinegar, olive oil and onions are added to the dish. Tahini is a sesame paste which is an ingredient used in many dishes also, something you will notice on your Cyprus holiday.
There is a lot of culture left behind from previous civilisations too, and in Paphos you will find a monument to the Aphrodite who is the goddess of love and beauty according to Greek Mythology. If local culture isn’t on your agenda, however, then you can roll out your beach towel and enjoy the endless hours of sun on your Cyprus holiday.
