In Greece holidays can be filled with great sun and you can enjoy tons of fun but perhaps the best delight of all is the Greek cuisine. The flavours of Greek food change the geography of where you are due to the influences and because of the time of year based on what is available. The influence in Greek cuisine comes from other European countries but mainly Italy and more specifically ancient Rome.

If you Greece holidays are the thing for you and cuisine is a big factor then allow me to inform of some of the dishes you’re most likely to come across. The appetiser will generally be ‘Meze’ which is a collective name for a number of small dishes, for example Boureki is vegetables and meat filled pastry, Kolokythoanthoi is Zucchini flowers filled with rice/cheese and herbs, Pantzarosalata is a beetroot salad served with olive oil and vinegar.

For your main course a variety of meats are used across the menu’s you will find, such as Yiouvarlakia which is meatballs with an egg-lemon sauce served over white rice, Pastitsio a baked pasta dish filled with ground meat and Béchamel sauce on top, Souvlaki is a lit skewer most commonly with lamb, pork or chicken then marinated in oil, salt and pepper, lemon and oregano.

Greece holidays wouldn’t be complete without a tasty desert and in that department you can expect to find Halvadopites which comprises of nougat of sesame with almonds in a thin crust, Loukoumades are fried balls of dough covered in honey and sprinkled with a touch of cinnamon.
